The Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards is always a class act, plus a really good time. Breakthrough Actress Performance winner Mariah Carey (Precious) focused a little more on the good time part than everyone else this year. She gave a tipsy acceptance speech that has made the cyber rounds (check it out). The Palm Springs Gala is the first movie awards of the season and draws those of the film persuasion again and again. Recasts this year: Sean Penn and Marion Cotillard. Cartier sponsored and gave all the honorees a classic Cartier Tank Solo watch in addition to the award. Among other notable accolades, the Career Achievement Award went to Helen Mirren. Or as Carey happily slurred, "The geeeenius Helen Mirren."
