I've received a few speckled recyclable party invitations with the claim that if I plant the invitation in the ground, something will grow. The one I received for the Kenneth Cole/Lauren Bush FEED Health backpack party was specific: It was made from "the regenerating bark of the daphne bush." I'll take their word for it. The shindig was for the new Kenneth Cole FEED Health backpack. When you buy one at a KC store, an identical pack is filled with medical supplies in sub-Saharan Africa. Lauren Bush hosted the do in Santa Monica at one of the cool LivingHomes—this one inhabited by Steve Glenn and the first LEED Platinum certified home in the U.S. Eco-friendly cocktails (VeeV—good), nibbles (deep-fried artichokes), great DJ (come to think of it, the last green-jeans party I went to also played the French version of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin' "), and celebs like Ed Begley Jr. being interviewed on the front steps. The SM cops put the kibosh on the valet within the first half hour, then hung around, so there were no shenanigans. No heroin on the sustainable furniture, just a stylish do-gooder crowd. I'll let you know if any poppies sprout from my invitation.
